MISSION BRIEFINGLead a crew, grow your own mothership and command fleets in Isaac Asimov's universe: an online strategy game you can install free on Windows PC.

Foundation: Galactic Frontier · Free to install · Windows PC · Sci-fi strategy

In Foundation: Galactic Frontier, the Galactic Empire is falling and you command a crew, a mothership and a fleet. Install it, open it and play the opening: it costs nothing to install. Optional purchases inside include chance-based items.

You start as a trader with a crew to recruit and a mothership to grow. You pick a ship class, send your fleet into battle, and fight in third-person squad combat with your heroes.

Reading on your phone? This install is for Windows PC: open this page on your computer. The install button leads to the official FunPlus download for Windows PC, not the iOS app.

Foundation: Galactic Frontier in 30 seconds

  • What it is: An online sci-fi strategy game with RPG and action combat, based on Isaac Asimov's Foundation novels.
  • What you do: You play a trader: you recruit a crew, build a mothership and command a fleet.
  • Price: Free to install, with optional in-game purchases.

Based on official FunPlus pages and store listings checked October 8, 2026; not a NexaRig hands-on test.

5 reasons to lead your own crew

1. A crew you recruit yourself

You are not the emperor. You are a trader, and your story starts with the people you bring aboard. You recruit robots, bounty hunters and outlaws, then take squads of three into the field, with 15+ heroes to choose from (per the Steam listing).

2. A mothership that is yours to shape

Your mothership is your base. You build and customize its cabins, then arm it with cannons before you take it into a fleet battle.

3. A fleet to command

You pick from three starship classes: Kinetic, Ion and Beam. Then you send your ships into large-scale, real-time fleet battles in space.

4. Squad combat, in third person

Fleet battles in space are not the whole game. You also fight in third-person squad combat: you fight with a squad of heroes. If commanding ships from a distance feels too abstract, this is the mode that puts you in the fight.

5. Alliances in Asimov's universe

You join alliances to fight for planets and star systems with other players, in an MMO with online PvP, online co-op and cross-platform multiplayer.

The setting is Isaac Asimov's Foundation novels. FunPlus says it developed the game in collaboration with Skydance, which holds the Foundation IP.

Fits you if / Probably not if

Fits you if you want… The game offers Probably not if…
A crew and a ship to grow Recruits, heroes and a mothership with customizable cabins You want to rule a whole empire, not lead a crew
Strategy plus hands-on combat Fleet battles in space and third-person squad combat You want a pure real-time or pure shooter experience
To play with other people Alliances, PvP and co-op in an online game You want an offline campaign you can pause (no offline mode is documented)
Free entry Free to install, with optional purchases You would rather avoid random-item purchases

If most of your answers land in the first column, the free install is the easiest way to find out whether the loop clicks.

Where you can play it

An official free Windows client is available from FunPlus as of October 2026. Also on iOS and Android, and on Macs with Apple Silicon. A Steam version is listed as "coming soon," with no release date, as of October 2026.

FunPlus's official launch guide says that binding your account keeps your progress playable across PC, Android and iOS.

What's free, and what isn't

Installing and opening the game costs nothing. Optional in-game purchases include chance-based items, and the US App Store lists purchases from $0.99 to $99.99, as of October 2026.

Decide your budget before buying anything in the game, and zero is a fair budget for a first session. The opening will show you what the game is like without it.

What we can't confirm yet

  • Spending and chance-based items: Drop rates, the value of purchases and how far free players can go are not documented in official sources.
  • Timers and daily play: Upgrade times and how often the game expects you to log in are not shown in official sources.
  • PC requirements: FunPlus does not publish system requirements for the Windows client, so the first launch is your test.

The verdict: your move

If crews, fleets and Asimov's falling Galactic Empire sound like your kind of strategy, the next step is small. Install the free Windows client, open it and play the opening. Then you will know whether you want to lead this crew.
